terrapass: offsetting carbon dioxide emissionssubmitted by daniel on tue, 2006-05-16 05:45.
I found a fascinating program that allows you to offset the effect of your car's carbon dioxide emissions by purchasing something called a TerraPass. The funds thus acquired are invested in renewable energy projects that reduce carbon dioxide emissions. This effectively nullifies your car's CO2 contribution by reducing output from other sources. Ford has teamed up with TerraPass to market this idea to Ford vehicle owners. Apparently, Ford derives no revenue from the program. Our Ford Escape Hybrid produces 97% less hydrocarbon and oxides of nitrogen emissions than almost any other vehicle on the road, qualifying it for the stringent Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV) standards. It also produces 50% less carbon dioxide, the "greenhouse gas". But that's 50% more than I'd like it to be spewing. We'll definitely be looking more closely at this program! tags: hybrid emissions ford escape renewable energy carbondioxide terrapass co2 pzev |
