As my bro-in-law called it. I had been unable to discuss it with my spouse until a friend left this physical world on short notice and his spouse had to find a place to place him – in winter. So without a lot of emotional upheaval, we found and purchased a plot (+ an extra for any descendants who wish to avail themselves), as it turns out literally a stone throw away from the resting places of 209 of those lost on the Titanic. It’s hard to live in this part of the world and not have some connection to that event. This spring a neighbour reached her 100th b’day; one of my enduring memories is of going to the movie Titanic with her and her recounting the news and talk about the event as a child in Halifax. My brother produced a musical piece about it (“Requiem at Sea") well before the movie and Celine Dion came on the scene; it's a wonderful piece, deep chords recording the sinking... my ancestors made the trip in 1752. There is something comforting in knowing where this last Apt. will be, even though I am not anticipating going there for some time and I have no belief or disbelief in an afterlife. Regardless, the rent is now paid, up front! |
