fellow reports over on this psychology blog that studies trying to replicate the message of the book "blink" - that we make better decisions if we don't think about them - have come up short in the "scientific process results are replicable and generalizable" department."
Take-away message: you might want to take notes and think about your decisions if they are important.
On the other hand, Ice cream? Chocolate or vanilla? I think you can make that decision without blinking an eye and no harm will be done in most cases.
Speaking of the other hand, I spotted a headline that said that brain scientists had found that the brain thinks of tools like hammers and screwdrivers as extensions of our hands while we are using them...thus once again proving Marshall McLuhan to have been correct with his insight on media as extensions of "man".
I think Buddha has already been shown to have been correct in the perception that the physical world we live in is an illusion that our brain creates...

wasn't thinking about Dr Who when I wrote the original post but just finished watching "Blink" on the telly and it reminded me...ooo wee ooo

One of my all-time favourite Doctor Who episodes. And the Doc himself was hardly in it!
