the force that through the green fuse drives the flower...

...apparently drove this tree through the limestone that covers much of the surface of the land (and the land under the surface) in these parts.I might have related this story before, but back on election day, I made a presentation to a group of middle school (6th grade) robotics class students about climate change and native plant gardening, and used a slide with two mushroom shapes - one of an atom bomb, one of an oak tree crown. The point made was the rate of change - rapid or slow, and the kind of change - destructive or creative. And the changes in climate over the last 100 years due to human activities and what can be expected in the next 100 years...
So yesterday I was thinking about business management that thinks about the next quarter's bottom line or their department's bottom line budget and has no sense of the bigger picture while ignoring the greater value and goals and - dare I say it - good - of the creative force that through the green fuse drives the flower, drives the tides through the sands, drives the wind through the leaves, and the electrons through the internets to your device screen.
But then I took a deep breath and let it out slowly.
And oh yeah - I heard that one of the robotics teams that I made the presentation to was inspired by, of all things, the predicted rise in deadly diseases, specifically malaria, and won a prize, or the prize, against all the odds.
Sometimes you light a fuse and a flower explodes out of it.
