just say pneu to pneumoniasubmitted by susanjillian on mon, 2008-01-14 01:02.
Daniel and I have spent the last 9 days, battling pneumonia. I guess it wouldn't be so bad if only one of us had it... but no it had to be both. If you have ever had pneumonia you will understand why someone would blog about getting sick. This is no ordinary illness. And I hope I never go through this again. I also hope no one else gets this. You start off perfectly normal, just going about your day, and notice that you haven't had any food all day, and you have no desire for it. It does not make you ill, but the appetite part of the brain, seems to switch off. Then the strange weakness all over where going down the stairs to my basement was agonizing. A low grade fever appears and makes you hot and cold and shivering. Then it happens, the coughing. The relentless coughing which made it impossible for us to talk to each other. I'm guessing most people can relate to this as it is very similar to the flu. But then the bone crushing leg pain starts. It is excruciating. The leg pain is pure agony and is like some medieval torture device. The lymph nodes are all swollen at this point, and any movement causes you pain. There are many types of pneumonia, and our one is the mildest of the bunch. Twenty years ago I had viral pneumonia, the one you can't treat with antibiotics. I was in very bad shape with that one. This was mild compared to the viral episode. I will probably always remember this experience, even if I don't want to. |
