That music reminds us very much of a bird's song, bringing us to the second significant meaning: a syrinx is a <a title="'The Avian Respiratory System' by Linda Pesek DVM, Diplomate ABVP (Avian)" href="http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww43eiv.htm" target="_blank">bird's equivalent to our larynx</a>.
