I truly hate our culture of judging, and see it leaking into everyday life, as people feel that by finding fault - they are somehow showing how superior they are. Evil shows like The Apprentice, America's Next Top Model, etc only promote a mindset that suggests success is measured by money, or how willing you are to do anything.
But there is no mistaking that this little girl is amazing, and gifted. She just came to sing. Something very sweet about that.

innocence and purity

I think we all have that pure and innocent little child within us, but some of us hide it earlier than others to protect it from the world of conventional society, some of us hide it from ourselves, some folks harden the heart and never let it open up again, and some learn when to hide it and when to open it.

I think the BGT judges might have been trying to protect her by not giving her first place, as she was apparently the popular favorite.

Her rendition of Over the Rainbow reminded me of my 6 year old daughter in the back seat singing along with great sincerity to John Mellancamp's "Jack and Diane" on the car radio many years ago: "Oh-oh, life goes on, long after the thrill of living is gone."

That really is a tear jerker. And not for any reason except the purity of the little girl and her performance. She represents what people wish the world were really like. We desperately want there to be a place for such purity in the face of everyday horrors.

Too bad there isn't.

Connie's performance for the semi-finals of Britain's Got Talent is also well worth a listen. She is quite something.
