I'd been meaning to read this book for a while. Finally got started on it recently, and then finished it while visiting some relatives that included 3-month old twins. Was able to verify some of the research first hand. Excellent reading, and I learned some interesting information about language acquisition that was new to me.

The subtitle for this book is "Minds, brains, and how children learn." Written by pioneers in the area - all of the laboratory research in this area has been done within the last 40 years - who are also parents, The Scientist in the Crib synthesizes the findings of the research and does so in a style that is easily accessible for all readers (within reason).

You can read an excerpt from the book posted at the authors' lab web site. You can also read a review from Science Blog from when the book first came out in hardback.
