Bonnie BeforeBonnie before grooming

In addition to the standard flea treatments, this simple addition to the dog's diet was recommended: add a little fresh sage. It seems fleas hate sage. And it can't hurt for your dog to have fresher breath!

And for fresh-smelling dogs that are flea resistant:

Boil a quart of water; remove from heat and add 2 cups fresh rosemary and/or mint and let it steep for about 30 minutes. After straining the herbs, dilute with 4 quarts of warm water. Pour it over your dog, working it into their coat and skin.

Bonnie AfterBonnie after grooming

Bonnie never has doggie smells as she has acquired the poodle fur and skin. She is 100% non-shedding too. However, Fergus does have minor shedding, and after playing with other dogs he will have that dog aroma, ever so slightly. This might help keep the scent a little fresher, and it will discourage bugs from annoying them.

If you can stand the effect on their breath, you can add a bit of garlic powder (not the salt, the powder) to your dog's food. Fleas (and vampires) stay away, and it's good for their digestive system. But I like your idea of Sage, with a Mint/Rosemary fur rinse. Much nicer for the human noses!!
