anna's hummingbirdsubmitted by robertkamper on thu, 2008-07-17 22:18.
Shake a tail feather... page 269 of the National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America 4th edition differentiates this specimen as Anna's rather than, say, a black-chinned hummingbird, another possible suspect. There may be another species out there for all I know, they're so fast and small, it's difficult to get a good snapshot. Today I was sitting on the deck with camera and this one came and hovered next to me - snap snap - then in front of me - snap snap - (nice pictures of the arbor beams, one of a ghostly blur way out of focus) and then went and rested in the huisache for a while. I went inside and made a few comments anthropomorphosizing the "mocking" hummingbird and then went back outside. Later the little one visited the feeder and I got this snap. I have some others that aren't as good at identification but I like more for aesthetic reasons. (They're pretty). tags: wildlife hummingbird annas |
