Couldn't find this through the usual searches in the NPIN when I finally decided that it looked like the silver nightshade so prolific behind my fence, and searched "nightshade". Sure enough, it returned a couple of dozen varieties of nightshades and false nightshades including good photos of this one. Gone to seed now - just glad to know it was a native after all.
