If you look at the previous picture in this gallery "find your own rhyme for this orange", in which I claimed to have photographed an Orange Sulphur butterfly, you see a similar but slightly different wing pattern. The closed wing patterns are likewise highly similar. The thing is, the BaMoNA database doesn't show the Southern Dogface butterfly as having been reported for Williamson County, which is where these photos were snapped. So I've sent a few photos off to the Texas contact for BaMoNA to see if we can get a confirmation, so Williamson will get filled in blue for the Dogface and it will be linked on the Williamson County map page, and maybe we'll get my open winged Orange Sulphur photo added to the database, since they don't have one there. My heart flutters like a butterfly with hope. Sigh... |
