Next to Ayers Rock in Australia, and Stone Mountain in Georgia, Enchanted Rock in Texas' Hill Country is about the biggest free standing rock out-cropping in the world, not that anyone's keeping track. If you look closely, you can get an idea of scale, because there are people on top, and climbing up and down along the trail that zigzags its way up the center. Surprisingly, no one has painted pictures or slogans on it, even though it has had spiritual significance for centuries among the natives. Well, Ayers and Enchanted Rock, anyway - we know what was done to Stone Mountain, and, come to think of it, Mount Rushmore, in the sacred Black Hills of North Dakota... anyway, we were passing through the neighborhood a couple weeks ago so we stopped by and had a picnic lunch and I took this shot. In England they draw chalk lines of giants in the hillside instead.
