last fritillary of summersubmitted by robertkamper on sun, 2008-09-21 21:35.
Had a little trouble identifying this one - wouldn't open its wings, apparently was settling in for the night or something while I waited and waited and waited, camera at the ready.... looked in the butterfly handbook which had lots of pretty wingspreads and absolutely no folded wing pictures (stupid humans)... then found a match in the map-species match in the butterflies and moths web site...and it's our good friend the gulf fritillary that loooves the passion flower vines covering the drain spouts. tags: butterflies gulf fritillary |
