Nice! Telephoto, or were you actually able to get that close to the Monarch? I find them to be very wary of humans and have trouble getting anywhere near them.

I replaced the flower nectar with vicodin and used a regular 18-55mm EFS lens.
Actually, Canon EOS Rebel XT digital 8mp using Canon 75-300mm telephoto lens with aperture priority setting. Don't remember whether I used tripod and shot through the window or handheld on this one. Considering that there aren't long motion blurs visible it was probably using the tripod.
The monarchs hung around from 26 September to shortly after this picture was taken. Last couple of days I've noticed the orange butterflies in the yard are gulf fritallaries. More orange and black, no white dots on the body. Picture from last year earlier in the gallery.
