ready for liftoff

a new sighting in the garden, this time a desert checkered skipper, a little butterfly that sits astride a fall aster here and spreads its wings wide. Barely noticed over in the asters, on the other side of the yard from the blue mistflowers, where the in crowd of Queens and the occasional Monarch hoot and holler it up with their big wingspreads and loud coloring, the checkered skipper looks like a bit of dappled shadow among the flowers.

I toyed with calling this "angel on a star" (how many angels can dance on the head of a pin) or something about a "thunderbird" because of the desert skipper thing and native american tribal dances in eagle costumes (I see it), but then I noticed the overall composition of the triangular shape being mirrored in the top and the bottom, so you get all these triangles in the composition, both positive and negative, all pointing towards the center, and the force of life just bursting up against the entire weight of the earth's atmosphere pressing down on it, one tiny butterfly under miles and miles of nitrogen and oxygen and carbon dioxide. At least that's my thought. I have these visceral reactions to design and I'll beat the crap out of anyone who disagrees with me. Just noticed it and thought I'd share it in case anyone ever reads this stuff and was in need of some enrichment in their drab, dreary, dull lives. Or it's a pretty picture of a butterfly and don't try to overanalyze it.

I was sorely in need of some enrichment in my drab, dreary, dull life. You happened along with this comment just in the nick of time! By the way, people do read this stuff. :)

Beautiful image, by the way. Nice composition!
