She's a lady

a Painted Lady, and her name is Vanessa cardui, if I'm not mistaken. A new sighting for my butterfly garden, or at least a new identification. And continuing a theme for the Mealy Sage plot, she seems to have a tattered right wing, just like the Monarch from the day before that. The butterflies with intact wings seem to prefer the Gregg's Mistflower patch (today I set up the video camcorder and let it run on the tripod for an hour...I think I'll call it "Butterflies in the Mist") which continues to be a hotbed for the Queens and Monarchs and the Gulf Fritillaries. My next little project is to check my inventory of plants and see if I can qualify as a Monarch waystation now, or whether I need to plant some more host plants for the larva.
