sighted 3 monarchs - one from a distant of about 1 meter - naturally no camera at the time. 22 March 2008
previously sighted 3 in same vicinity on 19 March but at a greater distance and both observed and observer were moving in opposite directions.
Also recently sighted the usual black swallowtails, sulphurs, silver hairstreaks, and the red admiral that i posted here earlier

2008-03-11 Originally thought this was a red rim butterfly, finally captured this after sighting it while planting butterfly attractors and hosts in the butterfly waystation area of the back yard. Grabbed the camera from inside the house, couldn't find it, went around to the front, and found two of these feasting on the mountain laurel, along with lots of honey bees and other insect friends.
