questions to ask a raven perched over one's door with a vocabulary of "nevermore"

  • Do I regret replacing my St Augustine grass with native plants?
  • Will I have to sweat over a hot dusty lawn trimming edges?
  • Will I choke on gas engine fumes from a lawn mower?
  • Will I itch from grass allergies?
  • Will I get stressed out watching bees and butterflies among the flowers?
  • Will I live a life of quiet desperation cut apart from nature?
Yeah, that's what I thought you'd say...
Looks like the second wave of Monarch migration is underway and the Gregg's Mistflowers are blooming just in time as this fellow must have come fresh out of its chrysalis recently and is tanking up for the long flight northward.

Huisache --- gesundheit !!

This small to large tree with the fuzzy yellow blooms is putting on a show and the monarchs aren't too snobby to stay off it, even though there are other plants more attractive to butterflies right next door.
But the orange and black does look nice next to the bright yellow and green...
and the pollen makes the eyes sting and the nose water a bit despite the allergy treatment...
