Not only do Monarch butterflies lay their eggs on Milkweed plants, they also enjoy the nectar in the flowers. I was lucky to get this photo, as Monarchs are very wary of anything that moves. milkweed flowerssubmitted by daniel on sun, 2006-07-02 21:07.
The meadow in our section of Jefferson Forest is filled with Milkweed plants. As a result, there is a large population of Monarch butterflies in attendance. This is what gets destroyed without a thought by housing development. |
