dr. stanely coren: dog lover and psychologist author - good books for good dogs

Long before we got our dogs, Dan and I did a lot of research on how to raise a puppy into a good dog. The one person whose name that came up most often for good solid guidance, was Dr. Stanley Coren. He is the author of many dog-focused books, but he is also the author of "Sleep Thieves" and "The Left-hander Syndrome". He is a Professor of Psychology at the University of British Columbia, and is the Director of the Human Neuropsychology and Perception department. Who better to understand human/dog interaction than someone who studies humans and loves dogs. I am a huge fan of Dr. Coren and recommend his books as the best sources of information on how we can become more aware of how our dogs perceive us.

I took this picture just now to illustrate to a friend how Fergus sits by my desk while I work at home. He's my constant companion.

He's also rather photogenic, to say the least.

A labradoodle got the nod as representative of the growing number of hybrid dogs. A cross between a Labrador retriever and poodle, the labradoodle has recently become popular in the USA after first being bred in Australia as a guide dog.
