configurationa change to the syrinx front pagesubmitted by daniel on wed, 2006-06-07 16:41.
I've been thinking that with the increase in posting and the widening of the forum topic list, the relevance of the front page of this site has decreased. It's become a long list of mostly unrelated previews. What do the members here (or anyone else who wants to chime in) think of reserving the front page for site news, such as this very note, or the addition of new members or content? The rest of the site's content is easily accessible through the top navigation, and the latest entries are always in the right-hand blocks. Individual blogs can be accessed from the block on the left as well. Also, there are two ways of keeping informed of new content: email notifications and RSS/Atom feeds. There seems to be little reason to have every new entry pop up on the front page. It creates some confusion as well, as it's not obvious that these posts are coming from different people and different parts of the site. Any thoughts or opinions on this matter? tags: syrinx configuration site 6 comments | 734 reads | subscribe
configuring blogdesk for drupalsubmitted by daniel on tue, 2006-05-23 17:34. terms: technical articles
UPDATE: Johannes has just added Drupal support to the BlogDesk Blog Wizard. Most of what appears below is still valid so I'm leaving it intact for now. I may update the content in the future to reflect the new BlogDesk functionality when it's officially released.

I realized while perusing the Syrinx site that much of what Susan and I post could actually be seen as articles more than blog entries or forum topics. So I've created a new section for articles. If anyone wants to contribute articles to this section, just let me know. Keep in mind that they have to be more than just a blog post with perhaps a link or two. An article is like something you'd see in a magazine, and is generally longer than either a blog entry or forum topic. tags: maintenance configuration articles site changessubmitted by daniel on fri, 2006-05-05 13:42.
I just finished making a couple of changes and additions to the Syrinx site. First, I've made almost all of the blocks that you see on the left and right of each page configurable. If you go to "my account" and click "edit" you'll see a section named "Block configuration". There you can turn on or off any of the blocks that you see on the site – except the main navigation block at the top left. It has vital links for your visits to the site. |
