birds of texas: american robin. first sighting in the back yard ground level water source as I returned from behind the fence with the camera. Took a few looks at me to see whether I was a moving object or part of the house, finished drinking, and flew off, but not before I snapped a few shots, including this one.

patiently waiting for an open spot at the bird feeder, these feathered fellers positioned themselves in a pleasantly patterned array whilst I was shooting asters the other day. Tried looking in the Sibley and National Geographic bird books but couldn't figure out which of a bazillion brands of sparrows or chickadees they might be. Online Texas Audubon Society didn't help much either. Oh well. Alfr

Up for the day:
Saw a hummingbird a couple of times - once near the neighbor's trumpet vine, then again gathering nectar from a penstemon in the backyard.

Downer for the day:
Got in the car to run to the hardware store and the neighbor's cat crossed in front of me with a bird in its mouth, on her way to her front door. Later, she was lying on her side next to the bird bath in my front yard.
