cats

up and down for the day

Up for the day:
Saw a hummingbird a couple of times - once near the neighbor's trumpet vine, then again gathering nectar from a penstemon in the backyard.

Downer for the day:
Got in the car to run to the hardware store and the neighbor's cat crossed in front of me with a bird in its mouth, on her way to her front door. Later, she was lying on her side next to the bird bath in my front yard.

Bad cat - better not come back!
Bad cat - better not come back!

Naughty Cat caught lurking in the grass behind the fence watching the bird feeder with its name tag on and everything. I foisted a rock in its general direction, not having a grail or a Frenchman around, besides it was much too windy for Monty Python jokes at the time, as you can tell by the dumb expression on the cat's face.
I think I saw this cat out for a walk/run yesterday with a human on a leash, so I will put off spending $80 on a Havahart trap. But if I do have to trap a stray nuisance animal, I don't think I will have a problem taking it to the Humane Society and dropping it off so they can charge the owner for room and board and a refresher on the stray animal ordinance.

Fergus - please meet Zigster

Fergus, please meet "Zigster", our 20-year old, constant companion! I am more than mildly allergic to her but… I lost the gamble when I said to my spouse, "it's either the cat or me" - she (my spouse) doesn't like making choices! No regrets, though, even when she (Zigster) walks on the piano keyboard when we're almost asleep and on my computer keyboard when I'm in the midst of something and now, in her old age, wails in the middle of the night, sounding like someone being tortured.
