I almost didn't see this jumping spider, but was able to get it to sit still long enough for a portrait. Like the wolf spiders, these guys chase their prey down. Every now and then they'll come inside the house and do some hunting to help keep the place free of pests.

I was told by friends that on their first visit to austin, they were surprised by a jumping spider and impressed by the size of texas spiders.
Must not have been this particular jumping spider. It's to the right of the leaf in the center of the photo.

spider spinning its web from a morning glory.
One day I will remember to use a tripod so my shaking hands don't add movement blurs to all the close ups.
