Parked within sight of the TX capitol building and the county courthouse next to a sheriff's only parking lot and walked 10 blocks down to the Copa for the "early" 7:30 first show of the evening. Austin's own 1001 Nights, a Middle Eastern music ensemble: http://www.1001nightsorchestra.com/index.html They opened with a didgeridoo...and traveled around the eastern end of the Mediterranean with their musical selections. excellent. tags: music sxsw bands international world mideastern indian classical npr devotchka rem cassius khan 1001 nights orchestra sanjeet millenium intuitive monaretta sxsw is coming to townsubmitted by robertkamper on fri, 2008-02-29 15:12.
SXSW is coming to Austin and yours truly will be going for part of the festival - the music part - for the first time in a dozen years. Links to bands and free mp3s are past the read more link... I've peeked in on the interactive (computer tech exhibits at the convention center) part prior to the music week before, and attended some dinner music at some of the "not the SXSW" local live music stuff before, but this is the first time I'll have the opportunity to actually attend some of the gigs. Plus now they don't allow smoking indoors, so I will be able to survive without carrying in an oxygen tank. Here are some bands that are being showcased who also have shared some mp3 files on the SXSW site free to sample and download. |
